Goencho Avaz to reverberate in Dubai

After houseful shows in Goa and Mumbai, Herald Group’s ‘Goencho Avaz’ will now be going international. In Dubai! The singers are all set to perform at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium in Dubai on March 5, 2016. Café speaks to the singers about their upcoming show

Goan
music has always
surpassed the borders
of the small state to create an
impression on a wider
audience. Carrying on
this unspoken tradition are
the
finalists of
Herald
Group’s
‘Goencho Avaz’ with
their upcoming performance in
Dubai.
Selected for
their on stage presence and ability to engage the audience,
12 singers will be rocking the stage on March 5, 2016 at Sheikh
Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School Oud Mehta Road, Dubai. The
singers include Anslem Fernandes,
Assenca Fernandes,
Divya Naik,
Everleigh
Mascarenhas, Frenzie
Vito Rodrigues, Valerie
Fernandes, Shunaina
Baptista, Scully
D’Souza, Karishma
Chari, Raiza
Pereira, Loy
D’Silva and Siyani
Fernandes. The
special attraction for
the event will be
Goa’s nightingale Lorna
Cordeiro, who will
perform with a few of the singers. Music for
the event will be by
Norman Cardozo and Ramerio and the event
will be hosted by Agnelo de Borim.

Frenzie
Vito Rodrigues
and his
cousin Anselm Fernandes will be participating in Goencho Avaz in
Dubai. Frenzie’s passion
for singing
grew
stronger over the years. This youngster from Sarzora started
singing the tenor in the church choir and gradually started his own
choir, playing the keyboard.
A high point of his
music
career was joining
the Mando
group, Goenchim Noketra, which
was
selected to represent Goa in 16 countries. “I
have
performed in
Dubai on two
occasions, but this
time,
the excitement is
much more
because I’ll
be singing solo,”
says Frenzie,
with a smile.

Frenzie
will be singing ‘Goenchim Feni’ by Alfred Rose
and a
duet with Shunaina Baptista, ‘Chup
Chup’. “I
am also looking forward to meeting
Lorna as I will be in the
presence of our Goan nightingale and
perform with her
for the first time.
We will have a rehearsal in Dubai closer to
the event
day,” says Frenzie,
adding, “Having
performed in different countries for people of different
nationalities,
it will be
an honour
to perform for our own crowd abroad.”

Assenca
Fernandes
from Navelim
was part
of the Mando
Mogi Margao group which was awarded the Best Mando Group in 2014.
Singing since
2001 in
the church
choir at
Guardian
Angel Church,
Sanvordem as
well as
the choral group Angels of Curchorem,
Assenca believes that one has to dream
big and achieve.
“Finally,
my
dream has come true. Goencho Avaz has been one of the best platforms
in my singing career. After
the mesmerising show in Mumbai,
it’s
now time for the biggest show in Dubai and I
am very
excited
to perform there.
I’ll be
singing two songs,
namely ‘Bhuierantlo
Munis’
and ‘Dis
Muinem Vorsam’,
both Chris Perry
classics,” says
Assenca.

She
further adds, “Another
reason for my excitement is that this will be
my first
performance out
of India. Also,
I will get to fulfil my life long dream to
meet my all time favourite,
Goa’s
Nightingale,
Lorna.”

Loy
D’Silva and Siyani Fernandes will be performing ‘Lila ani Zila’,
a song by M Boyer and Sophia, for the show.
The two have been performing as the
Symphony
Duo in
restaurants and for
hotel
shows and are
known for their versatility
as they sing in
English,
Konkani, Hindi, Marathi and Spanish. “It
is
a nice platform for all the young talented
singers
and a great
boost to their
singing careers.
Siyani and I
are excited
to see the gang after almost
six months,”
says Loy, who has been performing in a well known restaurant in Dubai
along with Siyani after they won Goencho
Avaz.

Goencho
Avaz
is going international due to the efforts of Javeria Rasheed,
Managing Director of Eventz Unlimited, and philanthropist Glenn
Ebnett, who is the main coordinator.
