With the SSC Goa Board examinations set to begin, parents
are concerned about the performance of their child but are still less stressed
compared to a single Board examination at the end of the term. The SSCE board
exams will begin from today, April 1 and the last paper will be on April 22
with many subjects having a long break, enough for the students to revise for
the subject. Yet, the parent and students are going through stress, anxiety and
pressure to get the best results.
According to the Goa Board of Secondary & Higher
Secondary Education, the SSC Second Term Public Examination of April 2023 will
be conducted at 31 Examination centres across the State with a total 20489
candidates appearing for this exam.

Teacher at St Francis Xavier’s High School, Siolim, Seby
Diago Pinto, is confident that the 120 students answering their second term of
the Board exam will fare well. “The students have only half the portion to
study for this board exam as the previous syllabus will not be included for
this exam. The advantage of this system of two terms is that the students have
less portion to study and they know where they stand after answering their
first term. They can according preparation to score more marks for the second
term to get a better percentage. The disadvantage of the system is that the
students didn’t have enough time since the portion was completed and they had
to answer their prelims within a gap of 10 days. There was no time for thorough
revision. Many students didn’t get good marks in prelims but they did very well
in the first term,” expresses Seby.
Sejal Kalangutkar from Shree Shantadurga High School, Pirna
will be answering her board exams at the centre in G S Amonkar Vidya Mandir,
Mapusa. Very calmly she says, “I have not been to see the centre but I will be
going very early to find the school and my seat for the exam. My first paper is
English, Marathi on April 3, Maths on April 6, Hindi on April 10, Science on
April 12, History on April 15 and Geography on April 17. I have revised well
for the papers and having some break between the papers also is of great
advantage for revision. I scored good marks for the first term and prelims
especially in Languages. I follow a normal routine and I studied different
subjects in a day concentrating on each chapter. I preferred this one system of
examination as I have the opportunity to score more marks based on my previous
exams,” says Sejal.
Preeti and Leslie Zuzarte’s daughter Lisa is a student of St
Mary’s Convent High School, Mapusa and being the eldest in the family, it is a
very tense atmosphere at home. “For the prelims, many students didn’t get to
complete their Maths paper and Lisa couldn’t complete an eight marks question.
They were confused about a question as they were handed graph papers when
plotting a graph was not required. She didn’t get enough time to complete her
revision also then as there were hardly any days for the exams. Lisa was also
into co-curricular activities and was a member of the choir as the school
celebrated its Platinum Jubilee. She scored 95 percent in her languages papers
for her first term and even 20 out of 20 for her social sciences papers,” says
Preeti.
Elder sister to Nathan, Lisa will be answering her Board
exam at St Britto High School, Mapusa. “Where studies are concerned, I am a
very strict parent. The television has been switched off in the house for four
months as Lisa understands why she has to concentrate on her studies. However,
Nathan doesn’t know the significance of Board exams as he is in Class 5. Time
management is of utmost importance while studying as well as answering the
examination,” adds Preeti.
Student of St Anthony High School, Mapusa, Claret Fernandes
has her brother to look up to. As she is still revising, she is still
disappointed with her prelims results and hopes to score good marks for this
term. “I did well in Maths and Science but didn’t score good marks in
Geography. We solved preparatory in Maths and Science and I am confident of
scoring well. For this exam, we will have to write long answers but we have the
option to select the questions. I self-study and cleared my doubts in school
itself. I can check YouTube If I still want to understand any concepts,” says
Claret, who will also be answering her board exam at St Britto High School,
Mapusa.
Scoring well in an exam makes the entire family very happy.
That can be seen as Ellie D’Souza scored over 80 percent in her first term.
Daughter of Diana from Guirim, she has to be brought out of her room for some
free time. “I am also studying along with her. She scored well in her first
term so even though we are less stressed, she has been consistently studying.
She is only finding Hindi grammar a bit difficult but otherwise she is doing
very well,” says Diana. A student of Chubby Cheeks High School, Porvorim, she
will be answering her exams at Vidya Prabodhini High School, Porvorim.
Though the board exams are crucial for every student, each
one can only give their best. Here’s wishing all the students answering their board exams all the best for their papers.
