Shivani
Gupta and her friends entered a restaurant in Megapolis mall Gurgaon on Tuesday afternoon wearing
a short dress where an elderly woman called her aside and told her, ‘Aren’t you
afraid of showing your thighs?’ she further went on and commented that because
of girls like her the other girls are raped. At that moment the girl got up and
went from there ignoring the ofdensive elder lady. The offender worsened the
situation by asking the men in the restaurant to rape “girls like” Shivani and
her friends. She told the men“If you see such girls anywhere, go and rape
them!”
However, shortly later, the girls
retaliated. They took a video of the woman asking her to apologize for passing
filthy comments. They even got to know about the elderly lady’s Facebook
pictures with a short dress, and purposely asked her while shooting the video
on what would she say about older women wearing these clothes. She then
aggressively shared the same views without remembering she had pictures of
herself with a short dress.
At the end of the video it is seen that
the elderly plans to file a police complaint against the girls for harassing
her to apologize. However, in an Instagram post on Wednesday the woman admitted
she had been harsh and incorrect.
People are deeply affected by this entire
incident and while many support Shivani and her friends, some are also against
the way they handled the situation.
People

It’s hard to believe women would think this way about women. I
really hope that she doesn’t have a daughter. Its people like her who are not
letting this country grow and are suppressing girls/women. She shouldn’t have
passed such comments that to in a public area.

“The comments which the lady has passed are really very bad. A
girl should not be judged based on her clothing. Her character is not defined
by her clothes. The trauma of rape is really bad and passing such a comment is
disgusting. Moreover, a woman talking about it is even worse.”

I’m not in support of that lady and yes her mindset is
completely wrong, she should change it, but body shaming a person in this
manner for body shaming you is wrong. What if tomorrow anyone from her family
or may be herself is targeted or hit by someone? Let’s address the issue but
vilify a person for their opinions. What do you get by popularizing them? A few
moments of sadistic pleasure; that’s it. You could have just talked to her in
private and get over with it. Did you change her views by making that video
viral?

I feel irritated when I see the comment of that lady, but on the
other hand that lady was just expressing her views (she has a right to express
it) even though it may be bad and really irritating , that’s the cost we pay to
live in a free wide world.

The words used are absurd and insensible. If she cannot change
her mindset don’t expect our millions of women living in the rural areas to
change their mindset. There are several girls in our society who wear kurtas
and bhurka’s and are still raped. So don’t say it’s the dress that attracts
rape. Every mother should try to bring up their boy child giving them proper values
making them understand that girls are to be respected and taken care of.

In today’s age we need to be careful of the words we use to
correct a child let alone an adult. . My students come inappropriately dressed
at times, I tell them side politely not amongst all. The woman could have done
the same. But to lecture somebody else’s child to public humiliation and to say
she should be raped that is totally outrageous and in one word speaks of the
woman as mentally unsound. Even I at times do not like how some of our young
girls behave in public like laughing unnecessary, but I am no moral police to
go and start abusing them.
