The first talk
of the Value Education Cell was
held recently in collaboration with the NSS unit of MES College of Arts and
Commerce, Zuarinagar Goa. JCI senator Nirmesh Tyagi was the resource person for
the talk. Vice-principal of the college, Dr Rekha Gaonkar welcomed the
gathering and Chairperson of the Value Education Cell, Associate Professor
Ashish Joshi introduced the guest of the day. The talk dealt with Values,
morals and etiquettes in the present day.
Through his talk, JC
Nirmesh Tyagi explained the meaning of values, morals, ethics and attitude. He
highlighted the fact that though India is known for its rich cultural values
and heritage, Indians often do not value themselves. He stressed on the point
that attitude can never be substituted by money, hard work or love and how just
a one degree change in attitude can make wonders in one’s life. He did point
out how we often do not value the people around us, especially the ones who
work towards making our lives better. He stressed on the how each individual
should have a helping mentality and often make it a point to visit old age
homes, orphanages, disability schools and try to spread love. Some motivational
videos were also screened during the talk.

The speaker also
involved the participants in a group activity. The audience were divided into
four groups and were given situations such as values that could be learnt from
old age homes, an engagement ceremony, an orphanage and a professor’s
conference. The talk concluded with feedback provided by the students.
A
memento was presented by the college to the resource person and a memento was
also presented by JCI Vasco to college. The vote of thanks was proposed by
Asst. Prof Shruti B Nayak and the programme was compered by Dr Rachael Chacko.
