Purti Savardekar has had a rollercoaster ride switching from
studying to teaching and going back to studying, before finally setting her
mind to do what she loves best, teach engineering. With a Master of Engineering
from Goa College of Engineering (GEC), FarmaguSSdi, Purti is currently the
Assistant Professor at the same college.
While completing her graduation at Shree Rayeshwar Institute
of Engineering and Information Technology (RIT), Shiroda in Electronics and
Telecommunications Engineering, Purti got an offer from Tata Consultancy
Services in Mumbai via campus recruitment. However, being a third year student,
Purti waited till she graduated to take up the offer. “I worked for one year
with computers and software which had nothing to do with engineering; this
involved long hours of work and lack of proper communication. The latter
bothered me the most as I love to interact with people. I missed Goa and
decided to come back to Goa,” says this outdoorsy adventure seeker.

Returning to Goa, Purti started teaching at GEC and six
months later, she realised she loves the profession. However, the minimum
requirement for teaching was Master of Engineering. “I completed the two-year
course for post graduation at GEC, Farmagudi itself. After which I started
teaching at RIT for a year and a half before heading back to GEC.”
Purti currently teaches Basic Electronic for first year BE
students and Adaptive Signal Processing for first year ME students. “I am
enjoying the experience of teaching as I can finally use the knowledge I gained
and pass it on to the students,” says Purti.
The trendy teacher is also passionate about acting. She is a
member of Rudreshvar Panaji Theatre Group and has won Best Actress in three
competitions. Recently, their play ‘Mahaprasthaan’ won the first place at Kala
Academy Marathi group A competition, earning them a ticket to the finals in
Mumbai.
Purti can relate quite well to students and understands that
they range from very serious to casual learners. “It is a challenge to reach
out to each student as some are very serious in their studies and pay full
attention in class while others take their studies for granted. You can make
out who is attentive when they want to learn more and ask questions. I make
sure everyone is paying attention as I give a lot of practical examples to keep
them involved in the subject. Once the class is interactive, everyone is
grasping the topic in a better way,” adds Purti.
