The king has been selected and he will now hold the reins between February 26 and March 1. Emiliano P Dias from Raia has been selected following a rigorous selection process conducted yesterday evening. There were seven candidates of which six showed up.
King Momo is a sometime actor who has essayed a role in the popular Konkani film Nachom-ia Kumpasar and a couple of other movies. A member of the selection committee said there were several parameters like personality, the background, and the manner in which the speech was delivered.

Speaking to the Herald, he said he was happy to be given the responsibility to be the king. He said he was very keen to keep the tradition going which started a long time ago. Emiliano said he was always interested in being King Momo and would watch it every year with much interest and finally this year, he decided to go ahead and pitch for the role. He said “I am very surprised and would like to thank the almighty for making it happen”. Emiliano said he learned a lot from the director of the movie Nachom-ia Kumpasar and it helped him while pitching for this role. He also worked in the corporate world and learned various skills.
He said his message for the people to party, to enjoy themselves but to do so with care because it was still the age of the Covid virus.
