PANJIM: Retired GMC forensic doctor, well- known right from post Liberation period, Dr Madhukar Shenavi Usgaonkar has passed away at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim after brief illness, on Monday night.
He was 83 years old and is survived by his wife Manik Usgaonkar, son Sukrut and daughter Pratibha. He served as forensic doctor in Goa Medical College for 33 years from 1962. Then he joined in Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad, Maharashtra, as the Head of Department (HoD) of Forensic Medicine for next 20 years.
In a condolence message, while expressing grief over the sad demise of this most veteran forensic expert of Goa, Dr Silvano Sapeco, former professor HoD of Forensic Medicine and Toxology Department of GMC said that he was popularly known as “M S Usgaokar” to Goan police and courts.
Dr Sapeco further said that as a teacher he commanded respect from medical students of all ages and as medico-legal expect, he was respected as “perfect man of science” by police and judiciary. According to family members, Usgaonkar’s funeral will held on Wednesday afternoon.
