Young voices, whose songs enthralled
Goans of all ages during the state wide auditions and the final rounds of the
Goencho Awards competition organised by Herald, undertook a musical journey to
uplift the spiritsof very special people, the elderly. An let this be said
right at the onset, they showed age was just a number as they shook a leg and
sang from their hearts

Home, Benaulim where they with sang, danced and distributed goodies. Following
the contest that was held earlier this month, the purpose of this visit was to
have a post event get-together and celebrate their win with the senior citizens
of the home.
When the contestants arrived, the senior
citizens were seated at the dining area, some on wheelchairs, all anxiously
waiting to see the Goencho Avaz singers. The senior citizens were joyous to see
the young singers, who introduced themselves and asked them what they would
love to hear. As they began singing, they joined in and the mood transformed
with smiles and laughter. The energy was amazing as the elders started singing
and dancing. They were very enthusiastic and more than eager to dance non-stop
to the tunes of songs by Lorna, Konkani Mandos and Masala.
The contestants also spotted some singers
among them and had a little spot competition. Antonia, Petty, Luiza, Aurora and
Mary gave their best shot.
While Voller D’Costa played the guitar,
Lizanne Rebello, Vrutha Karmali and Kimberly Fernandes lead the singing. They
performed nearly 8-10 songs. As the weather brightened up, they moved outdoors
for some sunshine as each senior citizen received their very own bag of goodies
and savouries, a treat from Ulhas Jewellers, the lead partner and supporter of
Goencho Awaz, who also organised this trip to the old age home
“We get so busy keeping up with schedules,
that we do not realise how lonely it must get for those who are confined to
homes for the aged. Life is not just about receiving but also about sharing. It
is not about what’s in it for us but what we can do for others. To have the
opportunity to impact someone’s life, even for a day, to bring a smile and add
joy gives us a sense of fulfilment. We are happy that we could be a part of
this joyous moment,” says Vikram Verlekar, MD, Ulhas Jewellers.
The contestants then proceeded to Anoshka
Family Restaurant where they were joined by Sharon Mazarello, Agostingo D’Cruz,
Fr Simon Da Cunha, Fr Savio Costa, Glenis Mendonca, Lulu Fortes, Conny M, Simon
Dias of Dias Decorators and Agnelo de Borim for a lunch party.
