Tiatr has always served as a strong platform to expose the misdeeds and mismanagement of the
government. Besides showcasing talents on stage by way of acting and singing,
some tiatrists have been bold enough to move a step forward and expose the
government for their mismanagement through political songs.
On the tiatr stage, there are only a
handful of tiatrists who have come a long way rendering political songs. But
these handful, have come out openly on stage with a daring heart and identified
the shortcomings and loopholes of the ruling government.

Any wrong move taken by any minister in
the ruling party or officials of a particular department has served as a hot
topic for our political singers. Rendition of songs with audience appeal has
helped many tiatrists to bring to the notice of the general public the sins of
omission and commission simultaneously.
Of late, the political singers of the
Konkani stage has not stepped back, but with guts moved forward to expose the
wrongdoings of the BJP government, in the state and at the Centre. They have
highlighted the malfunctioning and the backstabbing by some of the ministers by
way of various U-turns.
Promises made before the elections and
broken instantly after the elections by several ministers and powers that be;
have been the highlights of some songs rendered on stage. These songs have been
well accepted by the tiatr fans, thus admitting the ground reality.
Encores received by political singers for their renditions is a
testimony that people are aware that everything is not well in the political
arena and they have digested the hard truth. Some noted singers get instant
two, three encores for their songs, admitting that certain facts provided in
the songs are hard hitting truths and the wrongs need to be rectified.
Earlier, the political singers of the Konkani stage like William
de Curtorim, Nelson, Souza Boy and Conception had a lot of satire in their
renditions and hardly anyone dared to pronounce the names of the ministers on
stage. Instead, they would label some ministers with names of pets and animals.
But today, as far as political songs are concerned, the scenario
has changed drastically. The latest tiatrists are more convinced of what they
sing and dare to expose any minister caught in a wrong act.
While identifying some ministers and their misdeeds, some of the
political singers will announce their names and openly challenge them in
various respects and seek their apology, if need be. They will not mind risking
their precious lives when it comes to revelation of various misappropriations
in the government and the culprits behind the mess.
The recent focus by the political singers has been on the
U-turns by several ministers, including the chief minister and the sabotaging
of the recently held assembly elections. The betrayal of some MLAs from the
south and entry in the ruling party for selfish interests have also been the
highlights of some political songs.
Besides the slashing of the ministers and MLAs in the state for
their misdeeds, the authorities at the Centre, including the Prime Minister,
have not been spared by our political singers. Their recent visit to the tiny
state of Goa and the unreasonable statements passed on various issues, thus
hurting the sentiments of the people, has served as hot topics for our
tiatrists.

than appreciation and pat on the back for various developmental works carried
out or projects completed within the specified span of time, it has been more
of criticisms from the tiatrists, especially the political singers, seeking
justification over U-turns, empty promises made and delay in works on various
fronts.
