Margao and will begin at 7 pm sharp. Each troupe will be given three hours to
stage their show.

After a glance at the schedule of the tiatrs for the
competition, Rafael Pereira from Fontainhas, Panjim, a tiatr lover, comments
that it would be exciting watching so many tiatrs from different directors.
“All the writers and directors are seasoned,” he says, “and the spectators will
definitely expect something exceptional in presentation, script and direction.”

“It is always a pleasure watching several tiatrs staged at
KA’s annual tiatr competition as they are often of high standard, given that
there’s a big money prize for the winners,” Rafael says. “Apart from the
quality of tiatrs,” he continues, “you also get to enjoy good stage sets, light
effects, background music, good and high standard songs and comedy.”

“Before the closure of Kala Academy auditorium, people
especially from North Goa, would make a bee line and there would be a mad rush
to watch all the tiatrs staged at the competition,” he says. “But now,
unfortunately, with the indefinite closure of the auditorium, we are deprived
of good entertainment. And travelling all the way from Panjim to Margao,
especially for senior citizens, is indeed a pain in the neck.”

Angela Vas, earlier a resident of Carambolim and now a
resident of Sada, Vasco, says that travelling from Vasco to Margao in order to
watch the tiatrs at the competition tiatrs is not a headache as the distance is
short. “But for those travelling from Panjim and even beyond is definitely
difficult. And the authorities at the Kala Academy should give it a serious
thought for its re-opening at the earliest,” she says.

“When we have people travelling from Margao to Panjim and
vice versa,” Vas says, “for all those tiatr buffs, it may not be tedious and by
hook or crook they will arrange and manage to come and watch all the tiatrs at
Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. And those who have company by vehicle will definitely
make it for all those 15 days at the tiatr competition.” “But we hope that with
the re-opening of KA auditorium, the people from the north will no longer be
deprived of live entertainment via tiatrs,” she concludes.
