One held for forged passport
VASCO: Vasco Police on Friday arrested a 30-year-old native of Kerala on charges of travelling on a forged passport.
According to Vasco Police, the immigration officer attached to Dabolim airport, P Ravichandran, complained that Thomas Mathew arrived at Dabolim airport by the Qatar Airways flight at 4.30 am.
Police further informed that the immigration officials at the airport while on a routine check found that the passport on which Mathew was travelling was tampered and forged.
Police said the immigration officer, Ravchandran, handed Mathew over to Vasco Police. Mathew was later arrested under Sections 465, 471 of IPC and 12b of Passport Act and Vasco PSI Girendra Naik is investigating the case.
Plaint filed against forest staff
PONDA: A resident of Porvorim has lodged a police complaint against two forest staff posted at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, accusing them of assaulting him and outraging the modesty of his wife.
According to the complainant, he along with his wife and children had gone to the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary on Thursday evening.
He accused the deputy range forest officer and watchman of assaulting him and outraging the modesty of his wife on Thursday at about 6.30 pm.
However, Range Forest Officer Vishwas Chodankar later filed a counter-complaint accusing the Porvorim resident of filing a false complaint and trespassing into government property. Chodankar claimed that the allegations made against his staff were baseless.
“The Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is closed to public on Thursdays and he trespassed into government property. When our staff questioned and asked him to leave the place, he refused to do so and started arguing with them,” stated Chodankar.
Offence of rash driving registered
MARGAO: Margao police have registered an offence of rash and negligent driving against Aires Amorante of Margao. Aires has been accused of causing hurt to a cyclist while riding a motorcycle.
On April 7, at 7.10 pm, as he was rising from Chinchinim to Margao at Tolekate, Sirlim, he dashed against the cyclist Joao Pereira of Mandopa, Navelim.
Two caught with stolen bike
MARGAO: The Margao police on Thursday noon trapped one Sanjay Madhu Lingudkar, 24, at Fradilem, Navelim, along with another youth named Rathan Singh, 22, of Margao and detained them under section 41 Cr PC. Lingudkar is known to be notorious and is involved in thefts and other criminal offences. He is wanted in connection with cases at Old Goa, Anjuna, Verna, Cuncolim and Margao police stations. The accused on seeing the police had tried to escape but was overpowered after a chase of almost a kilometre. He was using a Pulsar motorbike with a fake number plate. On interrogation he revealed the bike was stolen from Old Goa and disclosed its original number plate. Lingudkar has been handed over to Old Goa police for further investigation.
Elvis assures help to MMC
VASCO: Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes has assured the Mormugao Municpal Council all help to solve its problems, even as he expressed displeasure over the absence of a permanent municipal engineer, accounts and taxation officer, accounts officer and other necessary staff at the council.
Gomes was speaking after his felicitation by MMC recently.
While complimenting Gomes on being promoted as DMA, MMC Chairperson Fiola Rego said Gomes was the former MMC chief officer and is aware of various problems faced by the council.
Rego urged Gomes to help the council to solve its problems, especially the rent issue which is pending for last several years. She also urged Gomes to release funds from DMA’s coffer towards development works in the port town.
Vasco Planning and Development Authority Chairman and Councillor Krishna Salkar said Gomes is an efficient officer and has proved himself in every office he has taken charge.
Councillor Manish Arolkar, Vice Chairperson Shekar Khadapkar, councillors Saifullha Khan, Nitin Chopedkar, Nany D’Souza and Tara Kerkar also spoke on the occasion.
