Chief Secretary, apologize

The inevitable has happened. Director General of police (DGP) Aditya Arya who disagreed with the government on quite a few issues in the past few months has been transferred from the state. Sources said the timing of the transfer clearly indicates that the government didn’t want to continue with Arya for the forthcoming assembly elections. That the Chief Secretary of Goa is behind to transfer DGP Dr. Aditya Arya from Goa police dept due to election and drugs issue Government knows very well that soon they will be jail due to drugs issue and mining scams.

The chief secretary should apologize as the letter of the acting chief secretary is clear that DGP Arya was granted the necessary permission. The chief secretary has succumbed to the pressure of the politicians and shown he is not capable to handle the affairs of the state of Goa, which is an international holiday destination and for that we need confident officers like Arya.

Many upright officers of different offices have been harassed, transferred or demoted. It is evident that our government does not want the people to know the misdeeds of the politicians.Despite Arya having the approval to take the car outside the state, he was humiliated, insulted and harassed which ended with his sudden removal. This has all happened because of the Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava. The Chief Secretary must apologize to DGP Arya and the Government of Goa should think ten times before repeating the same mistake must be aware that they cannot take the people of Goa for a ride.

Silvia Fernandes Diniz, Margao

I share my views that the former EX DGP of Goa Dr Aditya Arya was an upright IPS officer of the state. Unfortunately, he was transferred out of state because he was doing commendable job for ousting anti social elements and their activities. The officer should be brought back in Goa. The Chief Secretary should tender personal apology to DGP and should prove that he is not just a puppet of the politicians. We required a clean system which prohibits this misuse of power.

If it is true that Dr.Arya had taken prior permission from the Principal Secretary, to travel outside Goa to check on drug trafficking, then he should be lauded. And here we have a Goan lawyer indicting him and getting him transferred. Who is the  loser? Not DGP Arya? Its Goa and Goans who will have to suffer from drug mafia, hooligans and selfish politicians. The Chief Secretary has to apologize for the injustice done in haste probably to please the uncomfortable politicians.

Goa Family Party

I have heard of national political parties and regional political parties so far, but after hearing about revival of the “Goa Vikas Party” I realised that there can also be a “family political party”. The party president is the “wife” of the new “owner”. The vice president is the son of the late founder while his four brothers are members of the executive committee. The general secretary’s brother-in-law is an executive committee member; he has enrolled is own cousin-in-law  in the executive committee as well. And to top it all, like every family soap opera, the married daughters of the party founder are crying hoarse because they have not been given their due share of the “family property”. Goa Vikas Party, will it get any more entertaining than this?

Assuring pedestrian safety

At various locations in Ponda, pavements have been erected for smooth movement of pedestrians proceeding through the main road. However, many a times, I have noticed pedestrians walking over the main road itself rather than making use of the pavements. To cite an instance in this regard is the location near Municipal garden. Pedestrians proceeding from Tisk towards old bus-stand and vice-versa walk over the road instead of walking over the existing footpath at the municipal garden premises. This is rather an undesirable situation and there is every possibility of any pedestrian being knocked down by the vehicular traffic proceeding along the main road. To avoid risk and danger to mankind, it would be appropriate for pedestrians to make compulsory use of pavements and avoid walking over the road at any moment. This will certainly help in protecting innocent human lives.

Better organisation

I attended five to six sessions of the much touted Art and Literature Festival held at the the International Centre, Dona Paula. I must say it was a really poor show, with very thin attendance not just in the outdoor stage, but also in the indoors sessions. I have attended the literature and arts fests in Chennai and Jaipur. They have a different atmosphere with interaction between the public and famous authors and generally, an intellectually satisfying ambience with the presence of  students, critics and the book loving public in general. I would like to remind the International Centre that much public money has gone down the drains and I hope they will improve on the show next year.
