Unrest in Tamil Nadu continues

The civilian war due to racism began in Sri Lanka and minority Tamilians were persecuted which eventually landed the country into its worst economic crisis.

Not only has the inflation in the island country reached its peak but there is a severe shortage of goods. The president had to flee the country and the large number of refugees turned to India. This would pose a threat to India’s security, a claim which was stated in this same tone, turning out to be a reality.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also found the proofs regarding Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a Sri Lanka-based terrorist organisation, providing training in the jungles of Tamil Nadu state. A public vote was taken in Canada over forming a separate state called Khalistan by breaking away a part of India and similar votes will be taken in other countries as well. These are separatist moves to break the country.

It is indeed a fact that LTTE was working towards creating a Tamilian state in the Jaffna region of Sri Lanka. The world considered that the organisation ceased to exist after the Sri Lankan government forces killed its chief V Prabhakaran during a brutal conflict in 2009. However, that is far from the actual reality. The militant organisation is trying to rebuild itself and their objective will involve the usage of Indian land for sure. The Indian government initially supported the organisation in their conflict of Tamil Hindus against Sri Lankan Sinhalese. The members of LTTE were believed to have been trained in the jungles of Tamil Nadu by our intelligence system. The government later changed its stance once the organisation started to become more of a nuisance. Late Rajiv Gandhi sent a peace-keeping force to Sri Lanka, which angered the LTTE and resulted in the assassination of Gandhi.

The proof of the organisation’s existence has been found in Tamil Nadu and it is worrisome not only for one state but the entire region of South India. There is definitely a political sympathy towards LTTE in Tamil Nadu and it is obvious that the militant group will take advantage of that. The group may have benefited financially in Tamil Nadu in their fight against Sinhalese-dominated Sri Lankan government. Besides that, the organisation may also extort money from political leaders. The whole world was sympathetic towards the organisation at one point and the admirers did not stop supporting them even after Lankan government seized their operations. The militant group is trying to strengthen its roots in the southern-most Indian state especially after ongoing financial crisis in Sri Lanka.

As per NIA, the group has built illegal ordnance factories at multiple places in Tamil Nadu. The organisation is targeting politicians and business-owners to raise terror funding. If all this information is considered legit then one can imagine the adversity that looms ahead of the nation. Tamil Nadu police on May 19 took Navin Muthu and Sanjay Prakash from Shevapet, Salem into custody and seized two pistols, gun powder, weapons and explosives from them. Further investigation revealed that they both were working for LTTE and the case was handed over to NIA. NIA filed a complaint against both on July 25 and started with their investigation. NIA also learnt about LTTE’s plans from both of them and the organisation shifting their operations from Sri Lanka to India due to the island country’s economic crisis was perhaps the most shocking one.

Earlier the weapons were made by crossing the borders but now they are made with the help of none other than Tamil Nadu locals themselves. Jungle survival kits and poison made from wild seeds were also recovered during the raids carried out in the state. This explains how well the organisation is training their members to survive in the wilderness. And in any case if they are caught by the police or security forces, they commit suicide using the poison.

LTTE to strengthen its roots in Tamil Nadu, is working on their blueprint and to break into this module, NIA carried out raids in Salem and Sivaganga. Books on the organisation’s former head V Prabhakaran, photographs, objectionable material were found during these raids. They also found the list of Tamil Nadu politicians and business giants. Some of the documents seem as if the leaders on these lists were the group’s target and it adds to the concerns revolving around the country’s security especially with Diwali around the corner.
