Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn!

Soon after the results of Goa Legislative Assembly elections the scenes witnessed on Goa’s political stage confirmed that Goan politics is a game of pimps and the results can be fixed, mixed and adjusted accordingly. The Fatorda MLA played it professionally using his past experience from the Congress, the present elected grandfathers from Congress failed to use their experience and the Country’s former defence minister defended very well snatching the win away from the Congress. The grandfathers of Congress successfully played such dirty political games in the past and the recently witnessed ugly political scenes were of no surprise as I would term them as a part of Goa’s political system where public mandate has no respect.
‘Goem’ is a beautiful place with beautiful broad-minded people called ‘Goemkars’ strongly believing in one common religion, the holy ‘Goemkarponn’. Soon after liberation Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn was under severe threat. There was an attempt to finish the unique identity of Goa by merging it with Maharashtra but our holy religion, Goemkarponn united Goemkars and Goem was saved. Niz Goemkar leaders of those days died long ago and sadly they will never ever come back.
The so called Congress started the destruction of beautiful Goa in the name of land conversion, razing of rich green hills into flat surfaces, razing of natural sand dunes to make way for star hotels and helped mafias to buy land illegally in Goa. Then comes the BJP in power. In 2012 Assembly elections during the final BJP campaigning at Chandor, I still remember Parrikar saying that Goemkars irrespective of religion have united to save Goa from the further destruction under the Congress rule but sadly, the BJP just followed the footsteps of Congress. They went steps ahead of destruction by declassifying Goa’s scared coconut tree to make way for a Beer factory even when Goa has enough beer, supported nationalisation of rivers, Investment promotion board and what not.
More than half of Goem has already been ruined as far as natural beauty is concerned. Will this government succeed in preserving and protecting what little is remaining for our future generations? Niz Goemkar is a decent, broad-minded, straight forward human. A Niz Goemkar in no way will act like an pimp. With such ugly scenes witnessed on Goa’s political stage, will the new government really work to the protect the Goemkar? If the Centre succeeds in taking control of our rivers hardly there will be any Goan flavour left in our rivers. Will the same MLA as opposition who stood for Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn against the same people with whom he has collaborated to stay in power keep his word is a million dollar question?
I couldn’t find a dirtiest word to describe Goan Politics but am I clean and clear as a voter? The politicians in power might have control over Goa, the non-Goan migrants may decide the political future of Goa in near future but no power in the world can destroy Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn because a great soul has got his safe eyes on Goa from up above. Viva!
