Defense Minister, Manohar Parrikar still insists that his party’s stand is that the primary education of a child should be done strictly only in the mother tongue. Well, if that is the case, then why are leaders like Parrikar and all those who are making a big noise against English still not sending their own children in Konkani but in Marathi medium primary schools in Goa till date? Isn’t Konkani their mother tongue and aren’t they Goans? And from when has neighbouring Marathi which is practically not even spoken by anyone in public or at homes has suddenly become the mother tongue of certain leaders in Goa? The duplicity of all such leaders clearly shows that they inwardly love not Goa’s mother tongue Konkani but only Marathi and as they foolishly believe that this language alone is the only language which truly belongs to their religion/culture.
Simply spitting venom against a universal language like English in the name of Goan/Indian culture won’t help because whether it is Konkani, Marathi, English or French, no language on this earth go to teach any child to murder or to rape someone as they all go to educate them and make them better human beings. The so-called ‘culture’ is learnt right at homes through parents and not through books or selective Indian languages in schools/colleges. Why, had all the famous self-styled Indian Godman or babas, sadhus who are currently languishing in jails in some parts of India for committing different crimes likes murders, rapes had done their primary education in English medium primary schools?
The one thing I know about leaders like Parrikar is that the reason why they are still hell-bent on communalizing the MoI issue misusing the word ‘mother tongue’ then it’s only because they somehow want to keep the big communal divide alive forever between all the major communities of Goa for their own political gains.
I think that selfish communal leaders posing as custodians of mother tongue but behaving like colonial dictators and who are living only to suppress, fighting to take all fundamental rights of others should be told sternly to stop giving us any lectures of Indian culture as today we are not living under anyone’s control or colonial regime but in a liberated state like Goa. Simply talking of UNESCO guidelines to buttress their own point won’t help because foreign countries like Russia, Germany, France, China, Japan etc have uniformity and strictly follow only one single language unlike in India where we try to promote thousands of regional languages in different states to keep dividing our own people. I therefore strongly believe that parents alone should be given the right to decide on MoI as they are the right experts of their children and not politicians or some pro-Maharashtrawadi selfish crook individuals who are only hell-bent on dividing Goans on every single stupid issue in Goa. So, let’s say yes to freedom of choice of parents.
