The Electricity department deserves appreciation for introducing improved electricity bills. Designed and maintained by Goa Electronics Ltd, the bills give all the necessary information including about grievance redressal. The one change which is required to be made is writing the current house numbers of the consumers in place of the old ones which have been replaced years ago.
This is necessary since the electricity bill is considered as a proof of address for many services.
Secondly, many consumers are over-billed and they are getting their bills corrected. It is hoped that this is a teething problem of the new billing system and that consumers will not receive billing shocks in future.
Incidentally, rather more importantly, the two problems which continue to upset the consumers and damage their costly, domestic appliances are frequent interruption and low voltage.
The department should redouble its efforts to solve these problems and provide better supply to the consumers.
