An economist told me the following. Because of unemployment, we need growth of 8 percent which means development , IMF loans and debts which leads to employment.
This is necessary to give the politicians political mileage. But then this is always without exception and is accompanied by inflation. Look at the feverish pace of development and the accompanying inflation which leads again to unemployment. That is why we have never solved the unemployment problem.
So the vicious circle continues – unemployment, debts, development, growth of 8 per cent, employment, inflation, unemployment… We also have, but not necessarily, crime, traffic woes, taxes, hutments, garbage at Sonsoddo and elsewhere leading to dengue and later to plague.
But inflation is a royal companion of development as can be easily ascertained.
After Mopa and the Oceanarium tand spending Rs 5000 crores for industrialization of Goa the fun will begin. If we do what we have always done, we will get what we have always got. We must stop pushing the river.
