Joint action to help farmers

The government’s impassioned plea for joint action to help farmers is a clear case of locking the stable after the horse has bolted. It is apparent that the suicide of a 41-year-old farmer at a political rally on Thursday has pricked the collective conscience of the country.
The issue of farmers’ suicide has been a matter of concern for years and the government of the day in conjunction with other political parties needs to step up to the plate and help the farming community to tide over their shortcomings. The nation cannot afford to sacrifice more farmers on the altar of agriculture.
