Right to information, a very effective tool to keep vigilance on government departments, is now been misused by some to divert the attention of employees from main course of work to its replies which consumes lot of useful time of the staff causing them harassment.
Whereas some are in quest of genuine information found in few relevant documents but the RTI is applied in a way that requires hunting of all irrelevant long term documents not beneficial to the applicant. Also sometimes these applicants do not turn up to collect the documents which further leads to disappointment due to waste of effort and time on such RTIs.
For those applicants who are genuinely interested in obtaining the information should discuss the RTI matter first with the PIO, know exactly what they have to apply for and accordingly apply for the same. The applicants should understand and value the time of the staff and make proper use of RTI which is come as a boon to the society to keep a track of their hard earned money granted to government through their tax.
