I sincerely congratulate Herald and its team for its various exposés. It is indeed investigative journalism at its best – the fruit of meticulous work. Your courageous reporters gather information and documents, obviously in spite of tough resistance. The information gathered and the documents are carefully evaluated. The editorial team assists in the analysis and as a consequence the public learns important information that else would not have been in the open.
The politician-police-mafia nexus which continues to work with impunity has more than once been brought to its knees thanks to you; innocent citizens find in Herald a forum to seek and obtain redressal for their umpteen grievances. Your paper will continue to be hailed as the “voice of the people”. The task at hand is an onerous one and fraught with risks. To cap it all your bold editorials express the anguish of innocent citizens vis a vis a renitent and unyielding political dispensation.
The world has always been a dangerous place for journalists who take on the powerful; sadly it seems to be getting more and more dangerous. But whatever it may be, journalism can and must never be silent. Last year, 63 journalists around the world were killed and 1,300 worldwide were attacked. Jose Torres the intrepid Philippine journalist writes,” Journalists are living through perilous days. The best way that journalists can fight back is by not getting afraid by uniting and fighting back through their work… even if it means getting killed”.
Remember that as long as you adhere to the highest tenets of journalism and doggedly pursue journalism of courage we are with you even if it means us all getting killed

Inept Goa Police
I am surprised at Goa Police’s failure in arresting Mickky Pacheco. Are they succumbing to political pressure? The common man is rounded up immediately, but here they did not even initiate any move to seek his warrant of arrest.
“Help Goa Police to Help You” is their public slogan but it looks like this is for law breakers.
