Goa is known for its beauty & harmony across the world, beautiful beaches, greenery environment, and suitable climate attracts lacks of National & International tourist every year encouraging tourism in Goa contributing foreign exchange. This year whole tourism industry completely collapsed due to COVID pandemic and tourism dependent family’s facing very crucial financial crises, starving for daily livelihood.

Mining industry play important role for Goa economy, contributing GDP. Socio-economic development held up since mining ban in Goa from 2012 onwards till date.
Mining company’s encouraging agriculture providing financial assistance, drinking water facilities, motivating self-help groups, sports, construction of community halls and others diversified fields. Resumption of sustainable mining is very essential during these pandemic times as no other source of income to both direct & indirect mining dependents and major affected are Panchayats.
My humble request to honorable Supreme Court of India for early intervention in Goa mining matter we are awaiting for the justice!

Mining resumption,need of hour
Goa mining industry plays a very important role in building Goan economy and a source of livelihood to lakhs of mining dependents. Sudden closer of mines by Supreme Court left the workforce jobless, trade and business witnessed a sharp decline resulted in drop in the monthly expenditure & saving. The financial condition of people involved in mining has hit very badly, there is no other source of income.
Request government authorities to intervene and provide concrete solution to overcome present crisis. Finally it is question of our survival.

Has the pandemic affected students?
The pandemic has brought so many changes in our lives. Drastic things one could never imagine have taken place. But what about the students, how it has affected them?
From worrying about the dates of their examination to stressing about online education. From answering their boards in the time of pandemic to preparing for the coming academic year, their life is nothing less than a rollercoaster, facing ups and downs and continues to face them in the pandemic. When everything will start to fall in place how it’s going to affect them?
How tough it must be for the students and teachers to teach and learn online especially when the teacher and students can’t see each other, there is not much interaction. How difficult is it for those who find hard to cope with the connectivity issues. Some facing problems due to lack of internet resources. Looking into a screen has been really different; it took time to accept the changes. Some students still confused with things happening around, they are kind of lost and cannot find a way.
Accept the fact that they’ll be not going to their class for next coming days. The students need to mentally prepare themselves for the coming days. No one has the idea of what has stored for them next. Students need to relieve their stress and mental overload. Panicking about the situation has not helped and will not help you further.
We’ve never came across such situations before and sometimes things becomes difficult to handle, we need to have silver of hope that everything is going to get better and beautiful again. Stay safe.

FB post led to mob attack
An offensive Facebook post precipitated hundreds of religious radicals and the consequent violence took three lives causing extensive damage to public and private property in eastern Bengaluru, while Bengaluru attempts to fight the tide of rising Coronavirus cases.
It is unbelievable that despite the large numbers involved in the rioting, looting, vandalism, the cops had no intelligence inputs of the same and no reinforcements were available to quell the mobs. Says that rioters used guerilla-like technology to target police during the violence. Mob violence can never be acceptable. Those who had participated in the riots must face the law.
Karnataka should take a cue from Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh, to confiscate properties of all those involved in the violence and recover damages from them. If they fail to pay money for loss and damages, then the government should confiscate their properties as per the Supreme Court order.

Sorry, system is down
With reference to letters to the editor on Herald titled ‘Alleviating People’s Sufferings’ by Visitação Monteiro (Herald, August 12). It is an anachronism in this digital age when you approach a government department or a bank to make a payment; you hear the phrase “sorry madam/sir the systems are down”.
Some time back Herald had highlighted this problem on its centre page; when students and people had to walk for miles and miles for connectivity. If the government wants to match the efficiency of Singapore it should walk the talk.
Consider a scenario: at a sub registrars’ office the vendors, buyers and witnesses are all present, at the appointed time and the system is down. One of the parties has to fly to the Middle East the next day to resume office, imagine the anxiety and the agony. There are other scenarios where you have to wait and wait to make payments for your taxes, RTO license, 1&XIV, plans earlier these could be obtained easily from the ‘Mahiti Ghars’.
Just before election roads are being dug left, right and centre to lay pipes for optical cables; but fast internet speed is only a distant pipe dream. To obviate the problem, you need to have alternate service providers.

Cuncolim biodiversity destroyed
Cuncolim is always known for its contribution but very less is done on the part of villagers to preserve for the land of freedom fighter. To add Cuncolim Industrial Estate is a red dot of pollution for people of Cuncolim and surrounding areas. It houses industries which are not beneficial to locals and are polluting ones expect few. We talk about development but here still pollution norms are not followed.
Black carbon from iron and steel industries has led to destruction of biodiversity in large manner. The smell from fish mills during most part of year allows us to shut our doors and windows not to breath fresh air.
This needs to be stopped. The people appointed representative say we have to do morcha but when said you take steps and will follow they fail to do so. Where are we heading is sad thing to note.

Rude shock to Dhoni’s fans
Indian cricketing icon, Mahendra Singh Dhoni calling time on his international career has come as a rude shock to his countless fans and admirers. Without an iota of doubt, ‘Captain Cool’ was one of the finest cricketing brains, leading the country to a record three ICC trophy triumphs.
His match-winning six in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka was a magical moment and will forever stay etched in the memory. Mahi’s lightning-quick glovework behind the stumps also marked him out as an outstanding keeper. His record speaks for themselves, and he deserves his place in the pantheon of the greats.
