Regular patrolling at Margao KTC needed
With the number of crimes increasing, the safety of each individual has become a priority. The Margao bus terminal is a place where all sorts of people venture. And therefore it has to be under strict monitoring by the authorities.

There are usually men standing in groups or sitting in the car who would literally stare at a woman or a young college girl. Eve-teasing has become a fashion. Morning is usually the time when women would commute to work or college daily and in the evening they stand to board their respective buses back home. This unsafe environment makes them feel insecure and helpless at the bus stand. There would be domestic tourists who would also misbehave. Thus, creating an unsafe environment at the Margao Kadamba bus terminal.
My humble request to Pink Force to kindly make frequent and strict patrolling at the Margao bus terminal. To maintain discipline at the bus stand, I appeal to all women that they should be aware of their surrounding and should also raise their voice against violence and eve-teasing.

Curb accidents
The death of Cyrus Mistry should enlighten us not to over speed and to always wear seat belts. Everything possible needs to be done to curb the growing number of accidents and save precious lives.
We need to be cautious while driving with zero tolerance to over speeding. All the rules of the Highway Code should be always observed and adhered to. Playing Russian roulette with one’s own lives or more importantly the lives of others is not an option. The VIPs should lead by example in conforming to the speed limits. One wonders why Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s convoy is always over speeding while endangering the lives of those on the streets. It is only ambulances and fire fighting engines that are exempt from speed limits. Why are influential persons allowed to merrily move around in breach of law in vehicles with tinted glasses?
There needs to be also stringent penalty for drunk driving. The potholes on even the main roads are also a cause for many accidents for which the authorities are solely to be blamed. Unfortunately proper road engineering has not been a matter of concern for the government. When will the authorities wake up to the need of ensuring roads are free from stray cattle and dogs which again are a cause of many accidents.
It is high time those in power value every life and work towards making our roads safe by making road safety one of our top priorities. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Cheetahs are back
Cheetahs are back in India, seven decades after extinction! The first batch of eight animals, including five females, arrived from Namibia and will have a new home in MP’s Kuno National Park. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the cheetahs on Saturday and released three of them to coincide with his birthday. He also captured the moment on a camera. Though the cheetahs’ arrival would cheer wildlife enthusiasts, these big cats need time to acclimate to the new habitat and breed successfully.

Conduct flag march in Ponda taluka
For the past several days multiple theft cases were reported in various parts of Ponda, raising questions over policing in the taluka. Recently two ATMs were stolen at Usgao. Thieves also entered a temple at Khandola and decamped with gold, silver ornaments and cash, all worth Rs 10 lakh. In another incident, two unknown thieves on a motorcycle snatched a gold chain from a lady. Four unidentified thieves assaulted and attacked a shopkeeper at Mardol.
After several chain-snatching incidents in Priol and surrounding areas, thieves have reportedly started targeting women in Shiroda and Borim and two chain snatching incidents have been reported in the past three days. In the last 15 to 20 days several incidents of chain-snatching were reported in Priol, Mardol, Chirputem, Arla and nearby places. Ponda taluka is slowly turning into the crime capital of the State. It is learnt that the Ponda Police Station is facing difficulties to deal with rising crimes due to shortage of staff. A few years ago the government had reportedly announced new police stations at Mardol, Shiroda and Dharbandora. They are yet to see the light of day. The most effective way of preventing crime is increasing patrolling by the police. It seems necessary for the police to conduct a flag march in Ponda taluka which will serve as a deterrent to criminal activities and increase the confidence of the citizens in policing.

Kudos to Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin deserves a pat for launching an innovative and the much-needed free breakfast scheme for students of Class I to V, studying in government schools. To the pride of Tamil Nadu, the scheme is the first of its kind in India, and in its first phase reportedly it will benefit over 1 lakh students across the State. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for young children. Studies indicate that a healthy breakfast with high intakes of proteins, vitamins and minerals, leads to better concentration and improved performance in their studies, and will enhance their cognitive development. In a State, where the Mid-Day Meal Scheme pioneered by the late and former chief minister K Kamaraj has been popular for years, the breakfast scheme is yet another feather in its cap, and could be just the kind of beginning of nutrition being added to the progressive and successful political path of Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Stalin.

Fickle politicians lured by lucre
The lack of political ethics amongst the eight Congress MLAs who have become turn-coats is a smear on the political scenario in Goa.
However, with the elections having taken place on February 14, 2022 and the people of Goa’s mandate having been betrayed it is possible that on the surface it seems as if the BJP government has a majority, but in actual numbers the electorate are still only 33% for the BJP and 66% for the other parties. It does not seems that the electorate is so fickle minded that they have changed their allegiances to these disgraceful turn-coats. A situation has thus arisen that a similar political equation has emerged now had happened before the Opinion Poll. The MGP had a majority of 16 MLAs while the United Goans Party had a minority of 13 MLAs, but still the result of the Opinion Poll was that the non-merger group won the Opinion Poll by a margin of 34,021 votes.
The BJP government is too much mired in anti-people developmental projects that the majority people in Goa are against as is seen by the anti-IIT protest in Sanguem. Money cannot and did not buy 3 Congress MLAs who stood their ground. Betraying politicians can be bought but not the people.

Well done Karnataka
Karnataka has done well to reject Kerala’s proposals for two railway lines to connect both the States, citing green reasons. The two proposed rail lines pass through eco-sensitive zones and envisage connecting Thalassery with Mysuru and Kasaragod with Dakshina Kannada. Karnataka also refused to give the nod for an underground section for the line beneath the forest floor and for doubling the number of night bus services via the jungles.
