Football jerseys need re-designing
Would appreciate through the columns of your newspaper if the FSDL, the organisers of the top tier football league in India, could instruct the participating teams to re-design their jerseys so that the television audience which could be in millions gets a proper view of the players’ names. Nowhere in the footballing world, players’ names are put below the jersey numbers with the sponsor’s name on top. The sponsors could be in front and if need be should be below the number at the back.

It becomes very difficult for the TV viewers to know as to which players are in possession or as to who has scored a goal till the commentators make the announcement. Sponsors are required but the TV viewers’ interests also have to be kept in mind. Looks like the people who instructed the teams to design their jerseys this way as lacking in football knowledge or the viewers interests.
Hopefully better sense prevails and we get to see the changes at the earliest before the end of the season in May.

Kohli’s heroic tactics worth remembering
Among several India-Pakistan classic thrillers in white ball cricket, the game at Melbourne last Sunday in the ongoing T20 world cup must be rated as the greatest ever so far, as it went down to the wire, raising millions of fans’ heartbeats. The match will be remembered and talked about for years for Virat Kholi’s sensational stuff as his brilliant counter-attack brought the Pakistan bowlers down to their knees.
Though every shot from the blade of Kholi during his breath-taking knock is picture-framed in our minds, his back-foot six over long-on off Haris Rauf, the best bowler for Pakistan on that day, was stunning and left everyone in awe. His ability to win matches for India coming under scanner due to a prolonged lean patch, Kholi sang the perfect redemption song at the grandest stage of the game.
Credit should also go to Arshdeep Singh for picking up two early important wickets, which straightaway put Pakistan on the backfoot, and to Ravichandran Ashwin for hitting the winning run, keeping his cool in the nervy moments of the final few deliveries.

We need more Indo-Pak cricket
This refers to your editorial in Herald dated 25.10.22 on the “cricket”. India must receive accolades for playing so wonderfully and the Pakistanis should have praised India for its excellence openly to prove its unbiased sportsmanship.
That what you wrote in your editorial that more and more games should be played between both the countries is correct. In this direction people of both the countries must raise their voices in unison supporting both the countries but there are lobbies that hamper the growth of people’s voices that support peace between India and Pakistan thru Cricket.
While I was in Kuwait a few years back when under Imran Khan, Pakistan played excellent cricket stealing the entire show for which I praised Pakistanis throught my writings in the local daily, Arab Times but my praises were totally misunderstood and misinterpreted by our North and Central Indians from Hindi belt who feel they are more Indians and others less and as such they are incapable to pass comment on such issues. Peace between the two neighbours will come only with Indian initiative by surrendering some of its privileges in favour of Pakistan.
When I wrote in praise of Pakistan, there was hue and cry among Indians accusing me as anti-Indian as such I should be stripped of my second nationality which was imposed on me by Indian Government when India against its principle of non-violence snatched Goa from the hands of Goans.

Dr Manjunath Desai was a pillar of strength
It is a year since the unexpected and premature death of our dear Doctor Manjunath Desai. Goa lost an extremely rare and committed doctor, for he was a tall pillar of strength and hope for the Cardiology unit which he was heading at the Goa Medical College at the time when he left us all shell shocked and heart broken.
He always upheld the values of the noble profession which, for him, was more of a dedicated mission, and was guided by the Hippocratic Oath at all times. He rendered medical care with humility and an extremely high level of empathy, ever putting the interest of patients first, never breaking their trust and confidence.
Over the years I had the occasion of seeking Dr Manjunath’s help for many of my friends with heart ailments. He was always so helpful in rendering the same level of commitment and care to every patient alike, unfailingly with a smile. His every patient was always at ease.
Dr Manjunath left us at a young age but not without leaving behind a remarkable mark of an immense sense of passion in attending to ailing hearts. We all knew that he was unwell but never expected the end to come so soon. But God charts our life’s path in His infinite wisdom.
Even while being unwell, Dr Manjunath never failed in his task of saving lives. Our true tribute to that great and caring doctor would be to show the same commitment and dedication in whatever is our profession. The gentle and always so kind hearted Dr Manjunath Desai remained our treasured jewel. His memories will always be cherished and will never fade away.

Congratulations UK Prime Minister Rishi
On the event of Diwali festival of lights an Indian origin Rishi Sunak becomes UK Prime Minister, the first Indian Prime Minister of UK who is of Hindu religion. Hearing the news the people of India are proud of him where the people from India and the politicians including PM wishes him and expect ties with both the country as good friends and in business partners. Hindu religion people were so happy to see that their person became UK Prime Minister. This young man has won the hearts of the people of UK and the people from UK expect that he will be with the people of Britain.
Tradition and culture is in his blood and we know that he will take care of each and every single situation which the people of the UK face today. The citizens of India throughout the world are proud of you.

Rishi Sunak will steer the UK out of trouble
Rishi Sunak may be considered as the ‘sacrificial pig’ by many of the Tory MPs who supported him in his bid to become UK’s PM. The logic for this is the same as when Liz Truss was elected PM over Sunak. Apart from that, none of them would want the ‘hot seat’ of the PM’s chair now with the financial mess that the country is in, fearing that they would possibly break the record of the shortest tenure of PM that is held by the previous incumbent now.
Thus Rishi Sunak has admittedly the best credentials for the job given his track record as Chancellor of the Exchequer lately and after having weathered the economic storms during the Covid pandemic. Once he has been able to steer the UK out of the economic quagmire and into calmer waters, then would be possibly the time to take out the knives again by the Tory naysayers.
He should take up the challenge and show the people of the UK and the world what he, a man of colour and of Indian origin as also the youngest, can do as Prime Minister of one of the leading countries of the world.
Just like Virat Kohli played that ethereal knock at Melbourne to carry India home in the match against Pakistan on Oct 23 so also should Rishi Sunak rise to the occasion and show his prowess.
