Differently-abled Delhi woman Ira Singhai deserves accolades for becoming the first person with disability to scale the pinnacle of glory at the Union Public Service Commission examination 2014.
The topper who is afflicted with a spine related disorder called Noonan Syndrome has already cracked the exams thrice before only to be denied a posting by the department of personnel and training due to her “disability”, which was evaluated at 62 per cent.
Taking the fight to the authorities she has managed to come up trumps and get inducted into the IRS last year. Ira’s story of grit and glory proves that adversity is no impediment for success and hard work always pays. What is heartening is that the UPSC topper does not want to stop at this huge achievement and intends to go the extra mile in making society more inclusive by doing something for the benefit of the physically challenged.
Women have also done well to steal a march over men by bagging four of the top five slots in the exam. Way to go, ladies!
