R.K. Laxman India’s most loved cartoonist, humorist and illustrator who is best known for his creation of ‘the common man’ for his daily cartoon strip “You said it’ which appeared in “The Times of India” for 51 years is no more. The Maharashtra government announced state funeral for the eminent cartoonist. The common man immortalized by the cartoonist has been commemorated in a postage stamp released by the Indian Postal Service.
R.K. Laxman has won several awards during his lifetime which reportedly included Padma Vibushan and Ramon Magsaysay award. But more importantly he has won the hearts of millions of Indian over the years. In one of his quotes he said “Generally people take everything for granted. They hardly see anything around them”. The famed cartoonist was different. He could see what others had missed out. That was probably his guiding force. R.K. Laxman will always remain in the hearts of millions of Indians for years to come.
