It is sad to see Goan politicians including “Goemkar” Vijai Sardesai batting for the illegal settlements in Baina. While a MLA from Karnataka has been camping here in solidarity with those residing in these illegal settlements, vote bank politics has led to Goan politicians rushing to Baina in support of these illegalities.
The Karnataka MLA spoke of asking a package from the Karnataka government to the Goa government, in order to rehabilitate these persons. It is recommended that this MLA takes these dwellers to Karnataka and provides them with permanent accomodation there, rather then asking for a package.
Goa’s beauty is facing the eyesore of illegal settlements. Not just Baina or Vasco town, but Margao and other towns also face this menace. The Government and civic bodies have failed to take action. I fail to understand why our Goan MLAs want to shield these illegalities.
The job of the government is to raze down such illegal settlements, and to ensure that no such further hutments arise. It is high time to rise above vote bank politics and support the demolitions.
