Goa is a beautiful place and was once known for its beautiful, peace loving people. There was a time Goa was full of green fields, green hills, beautiful virgin beaches, rivers, lakes, springs and the list goes on. Sadly, things are different now, fields are been concreted at a very rapid pace, hills are been razed into flat surfaces, beaches, rivers, lakes, springs been raped, peace been destroyed.
Since liberation Goa been displayed for sale. The first elected MGP government of Goa unsuccessfully tried to sell Goa for all by merging her with Maharashtra. Then came the Congress who was very well known to the world for top level corruption. They ruined and looted Goa in the name of development. They introduced destructive projects for personal gains and to strengthen their personal Banks accounts. Now comes the BJP, they are just following the footsteps of the corrupt Congress and the intentions are to finish Goa for all.
The basic and very important responsibility of any government is the responsibility of it’s people, the safety and the security of it’s people and it’s land but sadly the government is in the process of selling it’s own people and it’s own land. Is this the government of the people? For me, it looks like the government of the rich and the powerful same like the old corrupt Congress.
Environmental clearances is just been a paper exercise. Our people in power always fail to understand the difference between development and destruction. Take the case of Cuncolim, they brought industries promising jobs for locals but the industries in return polluted our air and ground water. Since decades, the concerned authorities are conducting various tests without any results but the fact is, the so called historic Cuncollekars are breathing polluted air and drinking polluted water. Now the so called fish meal belongs to a Vellekar and rejected by the people of Velim is been dumped in Cuncolim which gives us a dirty, rotten smell on daily basis. Carbon deposits in our homes is a part of our daily life and the people in power speak about development.
Plans are in full swing to destroy Goa in the name of Congress introduced projects, Mopa airport and Golf Course at Tiracol. Tired of commenting against Mopa airport but atleast save Tiracol as a heritage site. Does any Goemkar play Golf? So how will a golf course benefit Goans? Is it worth having any project by cutting about 2000 trees? Bouncers are been used against the law, what a shame on us? It is not just the government to be blamed all the time but we all are also equally to be blamed. Most of us need money, no matter what way. Do we love our land?
Last but not the least, we lived as slaves but our land was safe. Now we are independent, is our land safe?
Wish all Goemkars a very happy Statehood day!
