Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made a come-back last time with the blessings of the people of South Goa after keeping the issue of Mopa Airport on the backburner, but it’s a shame to see this man openly backstabbing these very same people today by aggressively going ahead with the same controversial project in Goa. He says that Goans have given him an absolute mandate in the last Assembly elections to run his government and due to which he alone has a birth right to take any decision on any issue, which includes the Mopa Airport project. He is also seen questioning the people of South Goa and asking them silly questions like whether Goa means only South Goa just because they are opposing the said project.
Well, everyone knows who really fought against the merger of Goa, took active part during the language agitation to make Konkani the sole official language and who supported the merger of Goa into Maharashtra during the opinion poll or fought to make Marathi also the official language of Goa through the backdoor to finish Goa’s unique identity. Parrikar should, therefore, stop asking his own silly questions selectively for the people of South Goa because today if Goa has remained a separate State and has still got its own unique identity then it is only due to the hard efforts of people living in this area alone.
It is my personal opinion that the Mopa Airport is a white elephant; and the reason why our politicians (including Parrikar) are hell-bent on going ahead with the same on top priority is, it will guarantee them huge profits and returns. One thing is for sure: once Mopa Airport becomes a reality, the Dabolim Airport (forget the assurances given by our politicians) will be surely handed over to the Navy permanently or grounded slowly by these same politicians in future by saying that two Airports are not feasible for a tiny state like Goa.
Manohar Parrikar should immediately stop displaying and dictatorship, because he should know that by bringing him back to power last time, the people of South Goa have not handed him a power of attorney to do what he feels is right, but have only elected him as a temporary caretaker for 5 years to protect the interest and a sacred land called ‘Goa’. Parrikar should therefore stop going ahead with Mopa Airport against the wishes of the people of South Goa, because the more he goes to test their patience, the more they are capable of sending him and his current ruling BJP government into exile giving a action-replay of last assembly elections.
