This year yet again, we will be celebrating Independence Day on 15 August. This day is also important for Roman Catholics all over the world, as it the day of the Assumption of our Blessed Mother Mary, who was lifted by body and soul, in order to attain heavenly glory.
On this day, we should in fact pause and ponder on various issues, which indeed hampers India from truly attaining independence. Corruption, is one of the evil which is widely spoken about by many, but very few practice to actually curb the menace of corruption, which is widely prevalent all over India. May it be a government office or even a grass root level agency such as a Municipality or Village Panchayat, one would certainly agree that corruption is centered around, which ultimately affects the common man. Now-a-days, it is seen all over India that goons and thugs who purchased party tickets, have been voted to power and rewarded with lucrative postings giving wide scope for corruption, in order to make up for such pre-election investments.
In this current era, the independence of Judiciary has also not been spared, wherein honest Judges, who dared to maintain the independence of Judiciary, were transferred in a most unprecedented manner. The true independence of Judiciary, would be attained in letter and spirit, only if the legislature gives the Judicial wing full financial autonomy, as given to the Election Commission of India. In such circumstances, the Judiciary would be at the full liberty to independently decide on all requirements, not limited to appointments/ transfers, infrastructure, transportation of Judges and round the clock security of all Judicial Officers/ Judges, irrespective of the cadre.
This 15th of August as we hoist the National flag with honour, pride and dignity, let us strive and work at our respective individual level, towards fighting the evil of corruption, at all levels and maintaining the dignity and true independence of the Indian Judiciary.”
