Are you hungry? Too lazy to get out of bed? Or cook food? Do not fear for food delivery companies are here, at the slightest touch on your screen orders can be placed and voila! Within 30 mins your food is at your feet and 5mins it’s in your tummies, how satisfying… isn’t it?
Well,Chennai finds 65% of food delivery personnel’s violate the traffic rules as reported by a News channel,4 deaths in just seven months, two aged 20, one 25 and 23 respectively reported another News channel. In-fact if anyone reading this article googles about this issue you’ll find so many articles regarding deaths, strikes held against food delivery companies, no safety measures used, violation of traffic laws etc.

The food delivery companies should be sued for promising customers their deliveries within a specific time period that is so stiff that young delivery personnel’s rush with the orders to the customers breaking every rule and law set by the traffic department risking their own life as well as that of others. Companies promise to deliver within a time period of 30mins, if not delivered within that time the order shall be received free and the delivery guy has to pay the penalty set by the company. All you people who receive this food for free if not delivered on time, do you’ll even have humanity?
A delivery guy was once late with his delivery cause of heavy rains, the customer didn’t accept the order and he had to pay the amount from his own wallet, I question again, is this being humane?
I’d like to share my very own experience, one evening as I returned home from college by bike, a food delivery personnel rushed around a round-about in Margao, almost throwing me off my bike, being a potential threat to people, specially kids, potential threat to himself and could have put his entire family into trauma. Is it so important that they make their deliveries on time? Can’t it be delayed by 15 mins? As far as I know a person wouldn’t starve to death if the food is 15-20mins late. Food companies have become so obsessed with delivering their food on time, they are just playing with the lives of 1000 plus young people.
A major factor that goes unnoticed is unemployment, these companies have targeted the young unemployed sector, which is a good thing as they get employment in an era where finding a decent paid job is unrealistic, but are they misusing this strategy? I feel these companies get thousands of guys everyday waiting eagerly to do the job, which is why they do not really care about the safety of their own employees. One man down equals 10 more men waiting for the same job. Concerned authorities need to take stringent action if not already taken against these companies.
That being said I’d like to say something to the customers too, please do not complain about your food reaching late, I know you’re hungry, I know they get paid for the job, I know you pay your hard earned money for the food but is it really more important than someone’s life? They too earn to support their families at the age many of us are still studying. They risk their lives for us in the fear of losing their jobs.
