The last year has seen a magnanimous power shift; these tumultuous times have taught us not to take everything too seriously but also maintain the paradigm. One of the biggest questions and controversies that have held ground in the past time has been regarding work. People have been trying to grapple with multiple jobs to keep their homes afloat. The millennial term being WFM, more prominently known as work from home. This concept was advocated and welcomed to protect ourselves from the shadow of death hanging over us.
While it was a necessity, it soon became a lifestyle. Some embraced it, others shrugged it off. That is a normal societal convention. What came as a huge blow were the rumours spinning by the dozen about the people who were working from home. Work from home has been looked down upon as a mediocrity that easily comes to anyone. The reality is that it doesn’t. What might be a bed of roses for us is a bouquet of thorns for another.

It is not a piece of cake to sit across a laptop for the entire day trying to focus on numbers and words, step into multiple interviews, and have vigorous communication with people across the world from your home. While some might say you are in the comfort of your home but that safe comfort proves to be the biggest con. It is taxing. Seeing your entire family, trying to go about their day, struggling to manage certain difficulties, trying to console your child while they ache for you, caring for an aging parent or grandparent all while juggling across meetings. It comes effortlessly to make fun of the ones in front of a laptop, it seems foolish to us. But how is it fair to address your job as a real job and the one who is working from home, a fraud?
The problem with our mentality is that if we aren’t doing it then there must be something wrong with those who commit to it. Trampling upon others to show ourselves to be superior has become an intricate part of our nature. It’s sad that with our world becoming a global village, our narrow-mindedness refuses to widen. Work is real, work is passion and work is hard. Work in any form is a strain on the mental and physical mind. It is a gamble trying to balance your family and your work at one time.
While many have been ridiculed for working from home, no one is appreciating people for the struggle they are trying to overcome. As a bystander, it seems to be a cakewalk but ask the person who cannot celebrate important occasions with their family despite being home how it feels. It has not been easy being a professional working from home and it has certainly not been easy to hear numerous taunts from the people close to you.
Respecting another’s work and passion is mere ethics and not rocket science. Stepping out of the house has been tough and everyone applauds those for the same but sitting in and earning isn’t child’s play either. If you consider outside work to be hectic, tiresome, and difficult, take a look at the other side as well, the grass isn’t always green. Give credit where it is deserved. We are all struggling daily why to spread such negativity over someone’s blanket of success.
