In order to pry into the hearts and minds of the voters and what they expect for themselves in order to vote for a particular party or candidate, these classes of voters should be examined. Let us first analyse the voters supporting the big business houses in the State. They pledge their band of supporters to that party which is going to benefit the most for example resumption of mining, which is a very big and lucrative business in Goa. The big mining companies are interested that mining resumes as soon as possible so that their ends have been met. The corporates ally with that party which is likelier to resume mining as soon as possible. This category of supporters may also include the dependants who stand to benefit from the immediate resumption of mining.
In Goa, about two lakh dependants of mining can be included in this category. However, especially the big corporates are the ones who then dictate the terms and call the shots due to their clout which may even make and break governments. The stake for this category of voters is very high and involves huge financial clout. In this category, we can also include the other big businesses which may include casinos and other big businesses. It is not wrong to believe that often, even legislations are passed by the party in power to favour these big corporates. So, they often later get their pound of flesh for their support. Most businessmen have these vested interests and they lobby pre-poll on the quiet in the hope of meeting their interests.
Next, let us take the case of individuals who seek for preferably a government job. If these eligible candidates are provided jobs, then their dependant families are willing to support a particular candidate so as to be able to achieve their goals. The other types of voters are those who are guaranteed certain social welfare schemes such as Griha Aadhaar, Laadli Laxmi and Dayanand Social Security Schemes. In addition, even many-a-time a certain segment of voters are happy that they are paid a certain consideration at each election.
There is a very small segment of voters who are principled and with integrity, who seek for the merit-based candidates who may perform with distinction and their support is unconditional.
Can the Goan voters emulate this segment of the electorate so as to improve the quality of our elected representatives in such a manner that not only the governance of Goa as well as the calibre of MLAs is much better and thus Goa tends to benefit? So in essence, it is the people who vote for their causes who get the government that they vote for. In such a case there are no excuses.
True Niz Goenkar are people of high degree of integrity and they would like to vote for those candidates and party who have the true interests of Goans and their welfare at heart.
True Niz Goenkar are not swayed by enticements that any candidates or parties offer. All they wish for is true trusted representatives of the people working for Goa’s welfare.
These Niz Goenkars never accept inducement of any kind and stay true to the highest standard of behaviour and they have no selfish motives in their mind.
