Over the past several days a lot has been said and a lot has been written which probably lays broad guidelines on factors which we need to consider while casting our precious vote. The Catholic faithful have been set guidelines by the church authorities in the state. Nevertheless the ultimate decision on whom to vote depends upon the individual voter. Our right to vote is as personal as our name. It all boils down to which button on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) we shall decide to press today. Each voter may have by now made up his/her mind on whom to vote.
However there could be many voters who could probably make a decision at the last moment. Be that as it may it must be said that Goa is at the crossroads. This could be the most important elections in which we would be exercising our franchise in our whole life be it in the past or in the future. Hence what we need to keep in mind while casting our vote is the future of Goa. This elections let our vote be for Goa. Let us keep aside petty politics, our petty goals, our personal wants and desires and cast our votes for the future of Goa. We need to vote keeping in mind the future of beautiful state and the future of our children. We may probably never get a better opportunity. Let us keep aside our prejudices, our pride, our petty considerations and have only one view in front of us. To vote for Goa.
It is said that people get the government they deserve. We Goans are a peace-loving, friendly, good-natured people who are known for their hospitality the world over. We deserve a government which will work for the good of it’s people in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. The choice is clear. We need a government which will preserve nature and protect our environment. We need representatives in the government who will work selflessly for the betterment of the people of Goa. Goans deserve a government which will bring about development and at the same time protect our environment. If we do not make the right choice today future generations will never forgive us. We do not want our children to migrate to foreign soil to earn a living. We should give them an opportunity to work in the state. We need to elect a government which will create the right atmosphere for those who have gone abroad to come back to their homeland. With Brexit and it’s probable fallout, several Goans who have migrated to the European countries may want to come back.
Today let us vote for leaders who will protect our land, leaders who will protect the rights of the people of Goa, leaders who have a deep love for Goa and Goans. Let us vote leaders who will preserve the unique culture of Goa. Our songs, our dance, our language, our cooking, the way we dress, the way we treat others with hospitality, in short our “Goanese” needs to be preserved. Today’s election will decide which way Goa will be heading. More importantly we need to come out in large numbers and exercise our franchise. Goans have been known the world for their “susegado” nature. Today is one day Goan voters should do away with this tag. They should come out and vote for Goa.
