Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a host to the visiting dignitary US President Barak Obama from January 25 to 27 in an extraordinary manner much to the satisfaction of our guest who was impressed with the hospitality of the Indian people and dare devilry of Royal Enfielders. Needless to mention the people of India were proud of the might of our military weaponry and the disciplined performance of our armed forces on the Republic Day parade.
Our Prime Minister Modi surprised many people when he delivered the Republic Day speech in English. India at one time was looked upon as a country of snake charmers and labourers by the outside world. Our economy was agrarian till the 70s. In 1991 Indian economy was thrown open to the outside world with a goal of making the economy more market-oriented and expanding the role of private and foreign investments by the then Finance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Since then there was no looking back. We made progress on all fronts and today India is one of the fastest growing major economies. India is also considered as a newly industrialized country and a major super power next to China in the sub-continent.
USSR was always like a big brother to India since 1950 and this relationship was cemented by our Late PM Indira Gandhi when she dashed to Russia and signed a Friendship Treaty in 1971. However with the collapse of USSR in 1991, India and Russia still enjoy very good foreign relations. Here I would like to make a mention of another country Israel. The State of Israel was born on 14th of May 1948 under the leadership of David Ben Guirion and was propelled into a powerful nation militarily within 6 months of its existence and always stood for India.
