Women, God’s most Beautiful gifts

Thecla Pereira
This has reference to the news ‘Prostitution continues to flourish’ (Herald, March 19).
There is a cry over the inaction of Government agencies against escort service Websites promoting sex tourism in Goa. We must lobby for stronger enforcement of federal anti-trafficking laws, which make sex tourism a crime, to shut them down. We call Goa a land of Churches, temples and other places of worship. Little do we realise that our bodies are temples of God…In the recent past Goa is in the news for wrong reasons being a den of drugs and prostitution.
Who can women turn to? Who can women trust? We are all are accountable to unite, to end, violence against women and this horrible activity should be dealt with a strong law. The right to live a life free from violence is a right that all women must demand. A right that all must accord them and all governments too. Women are to be protected and cherished; to be respected; to be treated lovingly and compassionately; our women are NOT to be abused and mistreated. Women are the corner stones of our families. They are the fabric that hold families together. States must treat violence against women as a gender-based human rights violation, sex tourism is violence against, women. The figures tell of psychological, physical and even lethal abuse, sometimes over long periods of time. The only possible stance is zero-tolerance. Action needs to be taken by both central and local governments in any country and stop promoting sex tourism…..A big offence against your sisters and mother. Women are one of God’s most beautiful gifts and treasures to all. God created women to be our companions our mates equal in all areas. Women help men to learn to be compassionate; loving; caring; nurturing; protective; and strong then why abuse them?
Women can bring out the best qualities and have the tremendous insight, and are capable of bringing calmness and peace to many situations. Their ability to tap into the emotional and realistic side of any situation is a benefit that all can truly learn from them. We should give them our all, and protect them as we would protect ourselves. It is absolutely weak and despicable to physically, mentally, or emotionally hurt or abuse a woman. We should remember that it is women who keep our legacies moving forward as they bring our children into this world.  We must love our women with every fabric of our being. We must encourage them; support them; love them; and protect them; value them; most of all we should honour them not abuse them.
Why not be pro-women government, stop the abuse and mistreatment of our women. We are supposed to stand up and protect them, not demean them; not to humiliate or injure them and listen to them, when they say “We want no more commodification of our bodies or our lives! We want sustainable lives; we want the possibility for all people to live well to be perceived as of central importance. We will be on the march until we are all free!
