Hundreds of passengers were left stranded and disappointed after Air India’s Milan to Delhi flight was cancelled on Saturday (October 18) due to an extended technical glitch in the aircraft. The airline prioritised passenger and crew safety before deciding to cancel the flight, leaving many travellers stuck at Milan airport.
All affected passengers have been offered hotel accommodation, though limited availability meant that many were placed in hotels outside the immediate airport area.
Air India’s response
In an official statement, the airline said, “Flight AI138 from Milan to Delhi on 17 October 2025 was cancelled due to an extended technical requirement on the aircraft scheduled to operate the flight, prioritising the safety of all passengers and crew.”
Passengers have been rebooked on alternative flights on or after October 20, depending on seat availability with Air India and other carriers. One passenger, whose Schengen visa expires on October 20, was rebooked on another airline’s flight departing Milan on October 19 to ensure compliance with visa regulations.
Air India added that it continues to provide meals and ground assistance to those affected and expressed regret for the disruption. “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew,” the spokesperson stated.
