In a sweeping pre-New Year security drive, Delhi Police executed Operation Aaghat 3.0 on Friday, targeting bootleggers, drug peddlers, gamblers, and habitual offenders. The operation resulted in 285 arrests under the Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act, alongside 504 preventive apprehensions and the detention of 116 individuals of bad character. DCP South East Hemant Tiwari hailed it as a vital step for law and order, with 1,306 total persons rounded up.
Police recovered an arsenal of illegal weapons and contraband: 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives. Narcotics and liquor hauls included 6.01 kg of ganja and 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor. Additional seizures comprised ₹2,30,990 from gamblers, 310 mobile phones, 231 two-wheelers, and one four-wheeler. Ten property offenders and five auto-lifters were also nabbed, disrupting organised crime ahead of festive celebrations.

This marks the third edition of Operation Aaghat. The inaugural September drive in southeast Delhi arrested 70, seizing 14 country-made pistols, one sophisticated gun, 24 cartridges, 16 knives, narcotics, liquor, and stolen goods. October’s Aaghat 2.0 apprehended around 500, focusing on habitual criminals and syndicates. Tiwari emphasized the operations’ role in boosting public safety, community policing, and emergency response.
With New Year’s Eve approaching, Delhi anticipates huge crowds vulnerable to petty crime and vice. These proactive measures deter violence, ensure smoother policing, and send a strong message to offenders. As Tiwari noted, the crackdown enhances deterrence and maintains peace during high-risk periods.
