Double suicide in Arunachal linked to sexual exploitation and threats

A 19-year-old and a senior official ended their lives in Arunachal Pradesh amid allegations of sexual exploitation, manipulation, and threats, sparking a major investigation.

In a shocking incident in Arunachal Pradesh, 19-year-old Gomchu Yekar and a senior government official ended their lives amid allegations of sexual exploitation, manipulation, and threats. Yekar was found dead at his rented accommodation near Itanagar on Thursday. A suicide note revealed accusations against two senior officials, including IAS officer Talo Potom and Likwang Lowang of the Rural Works Department.

According to police, Yekar’s father had filed a complaint against the officials for abetment to suicide. The note alleged that Yekar had been recruited by one of the officials, contracted HIV, and was subsequently abandoned and blackmailed. It also mentioned that financial assistance of Rs 1 crore promised to him was denied, and threats were made to “destroy his life.”
