Monali Ghosh, Director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, has become the first Indian to receive the prestigious Kenton R. Miller Award for Innovation in National Parks and Protected Area Sustainability. She was honoured alongside Ecuador’s Roque Simón Sevilla Larrea at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi on October 10.
The Kenton R. Miller Award, presented biennially by the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), recognises innovations in conservation management, governance, finance, capacity building, and community engagement. Dr. Ghosh was lauded for integrating traditional ecological knowledge with modern scientific expertise, creating a model of conservation that has significantly impacted Kaziranga and Manas in Assam.
