Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has once again accused India of attempting to keep Islamabad “busy on both eastern and western fronts,” as tensions simmer with neighbouring Afghanistan. Speaking to Geo News, Asif alleged that New Delhi has been waging a “proxy war” against Pakistan since the Ashraf Ghani era, and continues to do so through Kabul. His remarks came days after Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to a ceasefire following deadly border clashes last month. The minister claimed that “India’s involvement is evident” and hinted at presenting proof if required. He also suggested that the Taliban leadership was being influenced by India, describing Kabul as “Delhi’s puppet.” Despite his sharp statements, Asif expressed hope that mediation efforts by Qatar and Turkey would help maintain peace between Islamabad and Kabul. The recent tensions follow Pakistan’s Operation Sindoor in May, when clashes erupted with India along the eastern border.
