On Saturday morning, a three-meter segment of the roof of a section of the SLBC tunnel, which is currently under construction, collapsed at the 14 km point near Domalapenta in the Nagarkurnool district of Telangana. This incident took place merely four days after construction activities had recommenced following an extended pause. Although several workers were able to flee the scene, eight individuals remained trapped.
Rescue efforts are currently in progress to extract the eight workers who are trapped within the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is making its way into the tunnel to facilitate the evacuation of these individuals, who have been confined for almost 48 hours. Telangana Minister J Krishna Rao has indicated that the prospects for survival in these conditions are “not that good.” He noted that the accumulation of debris within the tunnel has reached a level that renders passage extremely difficult.
