Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team were allegedly molested by a motorcyclist in Indore on Thursday, while they were walking to a café on Khajrana Road, about three kilometres from their hotel. The players were in the city for the Women’s World Cup and had recently played their final league match against South Africa.
Cricket Australia confirmed the incident in a statement, saying, “Two members of the Australian Women’s Team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter.”

Following the complaint filed by the Australian team’s security manager, Danny Simmons, at the M.I.G. Police Station, the accused, identified as Aqueel Khan, was arrested and charged under Sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Reacting to the incident, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia called it “condemnable but stray,” adding that India is known for its hospitality and has zero tolerance for such behaviour. He also lauded the Madhya Pradesh Police for their swift action and said the board would review its safety protocols if necessary.
The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) expressed shock, stating, “No woman should ever have to endure such trauma. The disorderly action of one individual has caused harm and cast a shadow over the city’s image.”
