MARGAO: Of the ten candidates declared elected unopposed in the Salcete panchayats on Monday, one was elected unopposed in two wards. Five of the 10 candidates were declared unopposed as only their nominations to the respective wards were received.
In Dramapur Sirlim, those elected unopposed are Remy Santana Antonio Fernandes from ward 2 and Sanjana Santosh Chari from ward 3 and 4. However, as Sanjana had not withdrawn her nomination from any of the wards, she has been declared elected from both wards and will have to resign from one ward later.
Mafaldina Vicente Martins was elected unopposed from ward 6 of Chandor-Cavorim, Ritinha Jose Oliveira from ward 1 of San Jose de Areal and Joanita Alemao from ward 4 of Camurlim as they were the only ones to file nominations in their respective wards
Alenceya Franklin Carvalho was declared elected unopposed from ward 3 of Paroda following Antonieta Benedito Oliveira’s withdrawal. In ward 8 of Chinchinim Deussua panchayat, Enicia Fatima Pereira was declared elected unopposed as Ankita Vithal Varik withdrew her nomination.
Estevan Luis Goes was declared elected unopposed from ward 5 of Telaulim following Lena Coutinho’s withdrawal. In Telaulim, Adv, Rima Dias was declared elected unopposed from ward 4 as her sister Fazel Dias withdrew from the fray.
250 to contest in Quepem taluka
A total 250 candidates are in the fray for the panchayat elections following the withdrawal of 53 nominations from Quepem taluka.
Returning Officer Pratap Gaunker found nomination papers valid of 254 candidates of which four have been declared elected unopposed.
683 in the fray in Ponda taluka
A total of 683 candidates will contest panchayat elections in Ponda taluka while four candidates one each from Curti Khandekar, Wadi Talaulim, Kavlem, and Verem Vagurme were elected unopposed following the withdrawal of nominations from their rivals.
Those who are elected unopposed are Naved Tehsildar from ward 6 of Curti Khandepar Panchayat; Narayan Talaulikar of Wadi Talaulim from ward 7; Sonali Tendulkar from ward 8 of Kavlem Panchayat and Satyawan Kanta Shilkar from ward 1 of Verem Vagurme Panchayat.
7 elected unopposed in Bardez
Seven candidates have been elected unopposed in three panchayats of Bardez Taluka.
Of the seven candidates, three each were declared elected unopposed from Salvador de Mundo and Reis Magos panchayats respectively and one from Socorro.
Those elected unopposed from Salvador de Mundo are Vijay Yashwant from ward 1, Sandip Dattaram Sagaonkar from ward 2 and Veena Fernandes from ward 3. Those elected unopposed in Reis Magos are Virendra Gurudas Shirodkar from ward 7, Siya Prassana Nagvekar from ward 8 and Kedar Jayprakash Naik from ward 9. Shital Sadanand Arolkar was elected unopposed from ward 8 of Socorro Panchayat.
