PANJIM: Members of the 108 employees Union met with the CM-appointed committee in a meeting to sort issues regarding the employees’ payments and salaries.
The Union met with Nilesh Cabral, Subhash Faldessai, Narendra Sawaikar and Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza. At the meeting the issue of daily wages and the status of ambulances that were in bad shape were raised.
“We were promised that the ambulances that were in bad condition would be replaced with new ones at the meeting last month. But since the new ambulances are expected to be launched in the first week of May, we were assured that the ones on the road now will be fixed. The ones that were in really bad conditions would be scraped they told us,” said union general secretary Sagar Prabhudesai.
Regarding the issue of daily wages, no consensus was reached with the committee members asking the management GVK EMRI to come up with a solution in time for the next meeting scheduled for June 8.
In February this year, a majority of the employees of the emergency service went on an indefinite strike, later turning into a hunger strike, to protest the working conditions of the EMTs and pilots as well as the ambulances. Following the intervention of the chief minister, the Union called off its strike with the management reinstating 11 employees who had been served termination letters.
