PANJIM: As many as 1,341 persons have applied for pre-paid taxi counter at the Manohar International Airport at Mopa. The Department of Transport had invited applications from unemployed youth belonging to families of Mopa Airport land losers, airport-affected, link road land losers and youth from Pernem Taluka to carry out the survey and process of providing pre-paid taxi counter at the new airport. It was further categorised as those having existing taxis, existing private vehicles willing to change as taxis and those who have booked new vehicles (taxis).
The highest 1,162 applications were received from those who have booked new vehicles. Of these 415 applications were received from airport-affected persons while, 405 land losers have booked new vehicles and 342 were others, who have booked new vehicles.
Similarly, it was also found that 95 persons from Pernem Taluka owned taxis followed 55 airport-affected persons and 22 land losers who owned taxis. (See box)
These applications were received from January 5 to 23, for pre-paid blue airport taxi with a notified stand while the government has proposed amendment to introduce blue airport taxi with identical terms and conditions of yellow and black taxis.
