1883 mining loans closed through OTS

Scheme extended by three months

PANJIM: As many as 1883 cases of mining loan borrowers, with a total loan liability of Rs 140 crore, have been closed down through the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme.
The scheme, which lapsed on September 4, has been extended for a period of three months. This is the second extension granted to the scheme. The scheme notified on September 4, 2014 had lapsed on March 4, 2015 and had been further extended.
Sources said that till August end, 1883 cases were closed, with Rs 140 crore was disbursed by the government under the scheme. There are another 750 applications pending scrutiny and clearance. 
“The scheme is further extended for a period of three months. This is  subject to concurrence from the Finance Department,” the notification issued by Mines Director Prasanna Acharya says.
As per the government Debt Relief scheme to mining loan borrowers from financial institutions, a subsidy up to 35 percent on the total loan settlement amount would be provided. As such of the total 60 and 70 percent principal amount that truck and barge owners have to pay, 35 percent subsidy would be given by government.
Banks and financial institutions, are granting waiver of 100 percent loan interest from September 2012, and 40 percent waiver on principal loan amount for truck owners while 30 percent waiver to barge owners.
