2 injured in Merces road mishap

Two persons were seriously injured in a road mishap near the Old Merces bypass on Saturday evening.
According to Old Goa police, the mishap took place as Pandurang Halankar (20) of Volvoi along with his friend Cajetan Fernandes (39) of Diwar were on their way from Calangute towards Old Goa riding a Bajaj Platinum motorcycle (GA-05-C-0558).
While reaching the Old Merces bypass road, Halankar lost control of the motorcycle and rammed into a roadside protective wall.
Fernandes was flung off the wall and fell into the river, while Halankar fell on the road.
A passerby who witnessed the incident jumped into the river and rescued Fernandes.
Old Goa police later shifted the two injured persons to the GMC hospital at Bambolim. Investigations are in progress.
