PANJIM/MARGAO/PONDA: With two days still remaining to file nominations for the panchayat polls, already 2059 nominations have filed for the 186 village panchayats.
On Monday the State Election Commission received 1477 nominations of which 840 were in North Goa and 637 in South Goa.
A total of 1522 wards spread across 186 panchayats will be going to the polls on June 11. Counting is scheduled to take place on June 13. Filing of nominations begins on May 18.
As per information, approximately 1700 ballot boxes will be used for polling, which will be done through ballot papers.
Meanwhile, in all 154 persons filed their nominations before the three returning officers at Margao with the highest number being for Majorda-Utorda-Calata panchayat where 12 persons filed their nominations.
While 64 persons filed nominations before the Salcete Mamlatdar Vishal Kundaikar, 55 persons filed nominations before Joint Mamlatdar I Manor Korgaonkar and 35 persons filed nominations before Shailendra Dessai, Joint Mamlatdar II. Candidates queued up at the offices of the three returning officers in Ponda as Monday witnessed filing of 264 nominations. Returning Officer Juo Fernandes received around 70 nominations while Abeer Hede received 80 nominations. Returning officer Biku Gawas received 65. The panchayats in Darbandora Taluka – Mollem, Dabal Kirlpal, Darbandora and Sancordem, Returning Officer Laxmikant Cuttikar received 49 nominations.
