PANJIM: Mines Department on Wednesday raided 22 controversial laterite stone quarry sites at Cavrem-Pirla in Quepem and seized five machines, one tractor and a truck.
According to sources, the mines officials raided the sites at Cavrem-Pirla, where illegal quarrying was allegedly going on, and seized five power tillers, one tractor and a truck loaded with laterite stones.
Sources further informed that the mines officials later went to Quepem Police station to lodge a complaint, in this regard; however, when contacted, the Quepem Police claimed that no compliant has been lodged in this regard and that they are unaware of the raids or seizure of vehicles and machinery.
However, sources indicated that the seized machines were later taken away from the site.
