PANJIM: The Crime Branch of Goa Police have arrested 24 persons for allegedly being involved in illegal gambling at Calangute and also seized from them cash and gambling items worth Rs 5.4 lakh, which included Rs three lakh. According to police, the arrests were made after the accused were caught red-handed during a raid conducted near the Calangute market on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
The accused who hailed from Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra were later released on bail. However, incidentally, one of the accused was injured after he tried to flee from the scene by jumping down from the building which was raided. He has been hospitalised.
The raid was conducted by a team led by PI Kishor Ramanan who is investigating the case under the overall Supervision of SP Crime Rahul Gupta, IPS.
